Examining Factors That Contribute to College Success in American Samoa Using Cross-Classified Multilevel Logistic Regression

Abstract

Cross-classified multilevel logistic regression was employed to model the relationship between student and teacher-level characteristics and their influence on students’ likelihood of earning an associate degree from American Samoa Community College (ASCC) within three years of initial enrollment. Although, the results did not yield any significant associations between high school and college level-2 units on college degree attainment at ASCC, high school cumulative GPA continues to be a strong predictor of college success (Allensworth & Clark, 2020; Noble & Sawyer, 2004). Moreover, enrolling with a minimum of 12 college-level credits during initial college enrollment, significantly increases students’ likelihood of earning an associate degree within three years.
