The purpose of this study, using ethnographic techniques, was to document how Latino school superintendents can lead for social justice in rural communities in Texas. Superintendent leadership can be minimal in the dogma of school leadership literature. Furthermore, studies from the Latino perspective are absent from the small body of work focused on the superintendency. This study highlights the work of Latino superintendents and their attempt to create a socially just environment by challenging practices and policies in rural communities that are highly problematic (AnzaldĂșa, 1999).
