Abstract

Our paper theorizes a methodological process which we term plática poetics and considers how it offers new directions for accountable research. We analyze our pláticas during two shared research trips to Guatemala through poetic inquiry to consider their ongoing impact on our own individual and collective research. Through plática poetics, we came to understand our collaborations and convivencia in Guatemala as building a community-of-researchers. By community-of-researchers we specifically point to a practice and process of openness, vulnerability, accountability and curiosity that allows us, as researchers and complex, multiplicitous selves, to think together about the implications and directions of our work. Specifically, we center reflexivity of our shared positions as researchers racialized as “mestizx” working with Maya Mam community members.
