Abstract

Pre-school years are a critical and rapid period for children’s linguistic and cognitive development, but the disparities between children with culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and the ECE workforce could bring huge challenges for teachers to apply appropriate activities, communication, and evaluations to support these children in the ECE settings, thereby influencing their development across all domains. This paper aims to identify important elements of culturally and linguistically responsive education in ECE teacher education programs and provided suggestions for framework adjustment, by examining the current literature on culturally and linguistically responsive education in teacher preparation programs and ECE settings.
