Mixed methods research (MMR) enables researchers to strategically use methodologies to understand the nuances and complexities of contemporary issues. Adding criticality to MMR equips us to understand the social realities of marginalized communities, while challenging traditional narratives based on the social imaginations. This mixed methods meta-analysis provides an in-depth examination of MMR studies that uphold social justice aims using a Critical Mixed Methods Research framework. Consequently, this can advance social justice research and further innovation in the mixed methods research field. The following questions guide our study: 1. What are the characteristics of MMR studies in education that purport a Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice (DEIJ) lens? 2. How do these studies align with a Critical Mixed Methods Research framework?
