Latinx Postsecondary Pathways: A Comprehensive Research Review and Synthesis

Abstract

Latinx postsecondary enrollment has been consistently rising with Latinx population growth (with a dip in 2020). Understanding the unique pathways of this student population to, through, and beyond postsecondary education is critical for equity. This paper presents a comprehensive research review of the experiences and pathways, as well as the influential academic and non-academic factors, for Latinx students as they prepare for and enter postsecondary education. It draws on national, state, and academic data sets and literature to explore high school attainment and preparation for college, college application and enrollment, college persistence, and post-college employment outcomes. Completed in partnership with a Latinx advocacy organization, this work has implications for policy, practice, and future research.
