Misconceptions are prevalent today, and the internet makes it so easy for people to access false information. When misconceptions are left uncorrected or changed, they can be alarming and problematic, especially when it undermines the quality of life of people. Refutation text is a well-researched tool for addressing these misconceptions. However, there is a significant pushback on the long-lasting effect of refutation text to change misconceptions. Therefore this paper reports a meta-analysis to examine the effectiveness of refutation instruction on learning. A refutation instruction includes using conceptual change teaching activities that aim to change misconceptions. The preliminary analyses suggested that refutation instruction is effective at changing misconceptions.
