This paper examines STEAM educational practices from selected literature on STEM and Science Education scholarship. Through an examination of the intersections between art and science, most reports visualization, beauty and creativity with limited foci on well-being for individuals, societies and environments through lenses of social justice and sustainability. Through a mixed method approach these empirical examples were categorized on the basis of their foci for art integration. We also drew on values inherent to a science education framework such as: place, skills, power, semiotics, reductionism, World↔Sign, de-punctualization, metacognition, Actor-Network Theory, and dispositifs to aid in the categorization. Data were collected during weekly meetings of a research collective as we examined the uptake of arts integration in STEAM education and analysed the patterns.
