"Tu puedes mija": Our Immigrant Mothers' Roles in the Pursuit of Our Doctoral Degrees

Abstract

Through oral platicas and written testimonios, we highlight the various ways that our immigrant mothers have played a role as cultural brokers in our pursuit of a doctoral degree. We use our lived experiences to center on our immigrant mothers’ sacrificios that have allowed us to overcome the challenges that we have faced in our doctoral journey. This has important implications for institutions to reimagine how they can cultivate and sustain partnerships with immigrant families to better support undocumented graduate students.
