We examine the entanglement of disciplinary inquiry, agency, embodied sensations, and epistemic affect. We extend notions of material agency to include intrapersonal agency by developing a discursive, posthuman framework of disciplinary conversations. Using a microgenetic learning analysis, we describe the disciplinary importance of a group of students’ careful attention to their embodied sensations. The group’s decision to pursue their disciplinary questions (and eventually attempt to build a computational model) was dependent on their having, noticing, and then responding to their physical sensations, material relationships, and entangled emotions.
