How Did Kansan Children Learn at Home During the Pandemic?

Abstract

This study examines the multifaceted educational experiences of K-12 children that studied at home during COVID-19. The author seeks insights that have emerged from cases in Kansas, United States. The study explores family motivation and engagement in education at home, academic experiences, and social experiences of local bilingual Chinese families in Kansas, including one group that had started to homeschool before the pandemic and not because of the pandemic and the other group that has begun study at home because of the pandemic. Among these groups, the first group has children enrolled in public schools, while the other group has children being homeschooled. The author reports significant findings and addresses unique experiences from parents with learners through interviews.
