Fri, April 14, 2:50 to 4:20pm CDT (2:50 to 4:20pm CDT), Sheraton Grand Chicago Riverwalk, Floor: Level 4, Sheraton Ballroom IV and V

Abstract

In this systematic literature review, we first identified examples of social media use in educational contexts, next analyzed the educational social media use, and identified specific affordances being used, and finally mapped reported outcomes to observed affordances. Through this process, our goal was to consider the ways that social media were being intentionally used as an educational tool by educators and to analyze relationships between social media affordances and learning outcomes. From this review, we were able to 1) identify trends across educational social media use and instructional methods being used to consider educational media use and 2) examine affordances emerging from educational social media use and consider areas of opportunity to maximize educational affordances of social media.
