This study examines preservice teachers’ use of multiple representations when teaching integer operations and the influence of peer collaboration on the quality of their representations through video-based microteaching. Drawn on19 microteaching lessons, it found that preservice teachers’ use of realistic and verbal representations were better in quality than their use of concrete and pictorial representations demonstrated with the set and linear models. They also preferred the linear model over the set model however, the quality of representation was overall lower for the linear model. The quality of representations in teamed microteaching were significantly higher than in individual microteaching, suggesting that promoting collaborations among preservice teachers can improve the quality of linear model, which created the most difficulty to preservice teachers.
