The Impact of Transfer Students' Digital Identities on Help-Seeking Behaviors: A Systematic Review

Abstract

Digital identity (e.g., Goode, 2010; Ainsa, 2016) is generally interpreted as an individual’s extension of self across technological devices and online platforms. This continuity of self is vital as online technology and the college experience have converged in the modern pandemic. Yet, little is known about the digital identity of college transfer students. Drawing on transfer students’ strengths, an asset-based perspective will be applied to counteract transfer student stigma and dominance in educational spaces (Harper, 2010; Laanan & Jain, 2017; Shaw et al., 2019; Jain et al., 2020). The proposed narrative systematic review is uniquely positioned to facilitate integration across multiple theoretical perspectives and literature. It is also intended to serve as a springboard for future research.
