The Relationship Between Perceived Prestige and Objective Measures of Journal Quality

Thu, May 4, 8:00 to 9:30am CDT (8:00 to 9:30am CDT), Division J Virtual Sessions, Division J - Postsecondary Education Virtual Paper Room

Abstract

We examined perceptions of journal prestige held by higher education faculty and compared subjective measures of prestige to a) objective metrics of journals, and b) to measures faculty believed mattered in prestige. Findings indicated differences in database availability of data, strong links between subjective and objective measures, and strong links of altmetrics with other journal publication measures.
