Abstract

With the purpose of filling a gap in the literature and highlighting women’s voices, this phenomenological research study involved interviews with seven Iranian-American mothers with at least one child with a dis/ability. The purpose of this research study was to understand the experiences in education of Iranian-American mothers raising individuals with dis/abilities. During the process of pulling information directly from the mothers’ interviews, sub themes and priority themes were identified that were inherent to the phenomenological approach. As expected from the structures of the interview questions, each mother shared her immigration story, the story of her child, and her meaning/understanding as a mother raising a child with a dis/ability.
