Abstract

India is witnessing a virtual explosion in Citizen Science (CS) projects focusing on environmental concerns on temporal and spatial scales. Environmental and Sustainability Education (ESE) provides opportunities to further support CS initiatives to create long-lasting, meaningful impacts. This study explores existing CS initiatives in India and their uptake of educational opportunities in developing an active citizenry. The study uses mixed methods, including an open-ended survey in Phase 1 and semi-structured interviews based on earlier findings in Phase 2. The main findings provide a framework to foster deeper connections and advocate for education to be foregrounded as an intentional component while planning future CS initiatives.
