Abstract

The purpose of this study is a self-reflection about the experience of a disabled faculty member in a federally funded program at an urban university to advance the vocational training of individuals with developmental disabilities. The implementation of programs that provide training to adults with learning and intellectual disabilities has become popular in higher education. Nevertheless, few studies have explored the narrative of students and/or faculty in these programs. This study used narrative inquiry as the methodology to explore the moments of success, triumphs, tensions, and conflicts. This auto-biographical study attempt to shed light on what made the grant successful, examine the moments of tribulation, and offer insight into the promises of implementing such programs.
