Deepening Our Conceptions of BlackCrit in Education: A Black Educational Justice Imperative

Abstract

In this research informed theoretical paper, I work to extend our conception of BlackCrit in Education (Dumas & ross, 2016) by placing it in conversation with (and in tension with) other Black-specific theories (e.g., African critical theory, afro-pessimism, afro-optimism, afrofuturism, etc.). Positioning BlackCrit as a theoretical homeplace (hooks, 1990) for Black educational justice aims, I tease out the nuances and necessity of Black-specificity in an anti-Black educational landscape.
