Abstract

The purpose of the study is to explore the social and scholarly epistemologies of three Black educational leadership faculty at various stages of our careers. We ask how do our epistemologies inform our practice as educational leadership preparation faculty? We seek to 1) add to what is known about the lived experiences of Black educational leadership faculty and 2) differentiate our experiences and methodologies from traditional approaches to school leadership research and development by aligning ourselves with historical Black intellectuals. Findings indicate that our epistemologies are grounded in historical efforts to achieve freedom for everybody, with a faith in liberatory belief systems and a fighting spirit that refuses to accept narrow imaginings for leadership development.
