K–8 Computer Science Attitudinal Survey for Teachers: Integrating in Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging

Abstract

There are several tools that measure student and teacher interest in, knowledge of, and attitude towards CS starting at middle school through post-secondary levels. Yet there are few instruments in the context of K8 educational settings despite the increasing integration of CS education into general education K8 classrooms. This proposed paper presentation provides descriptive analysis of the pilot survey that aims to fill the void of measures that assess K8 teacher attitudes towards computer science and diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) in CS. This research responds to the AERA conference theme by addressing the ways in which on-going instrument development is critical to informing empirical research to yield data that informs justice-oriented education.
