Early Learning Fellows Program: A Collaborative Space to Grow Cross-Sector Early Childhood Leaders

Fri, April 14, 2:50 to 4:20pm CDT (2:50 to 4:20pm CDT), Fairmont Chicago Millennium Park, Floor: B2 Level, Imperial Ballroom

Abstract

This study presented a unique inquiry-based model called the Early Learning Fellows (ELF) program in supporting early childhood educators and leaders in a rural community of the Northwestern U.S.. Employing a convergent mixed-methods design, we examined fellows’ experiences and growth during the ELF program. Descriptive statistics of four exit surveys and thematic analyses of fellows’ action plans and final interviews revealed that the ELF program provided a unique space for early childhood professionals to collaborate and grow. Fellows shared how they grew as leaders and expanded their visions of change to implement in their individual organizations and across the broader early learning system. We conclude with a discussion of the significance of interdisciplinary collaboration in promoting equitable early childhood education.
