A Retrospective Case Study on Caregivers' Perceptions of the Pandemic Remote Learning: Successes, Challenges, Opportunities

Sun, April 16, 11:40am to 1:10pm CDT (11:40am to 1:10pm CDT), Fairmont Chicago Millennium Park, Floor: B2 Level, Imperial Ballroom

Abstract

Through a retrospective case study, this research investigated a unique case, Ms. Carter, regarding how she navigated the remote learning space with children at her home. The findings reveal a sense of parental agency, which illustrates in her use of strategies and approaches to handle challenges. Her practices of parental agency seem to stem from her familiarity with the school system. This long-term implication brings forward future opportunities in the “post” pandemic era. For example, schools should reconsider parent workshops to help parents and caregivers gain more agency and voices in their children’s learning experiences.
