From Nazis to Desegregation: Exploring the Complicated History of a California College Town

Abstract

Orange County, California is home to a neo-conservative political platform that shares a racial past embedded within the Ku Klux Klan. Orange is also the home to some of the oldest Mexican-American historical Barrios that can be dated back to segregation. The racial histories embedded within in this town confront a complex dynamic by a changing economic, and cultural reality led by a college town setting. As an up and coming, trendy college town attracting affluent white students to is locations, tensions arise and dynamics that engage these specific geographies of time and space, are determined by their historical racial pasts. The paper will address the intersection of physical space, time, and racial histories of an ever-evolving community.
