Thu, April 13, 11:40am to 1:10pm CDT (11:40am to 1:10pm CDT), Sheraton Grand Chicago Riverwalk, Floor: Level 2, Huron

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic caused unique challenges to international graduate students. Despite the recognized benefits that these students bring to the US universities, research shows that they frequently remain underserved by their institutions. Drawing from the interviews conducted at a major public research university, this study aimed to capture experiences of international graduate students during the COVID-19 pandemic, to highlight the ways in which students coped with the challenges brought by the remote learning environment, and to identify the potential avenues of institutional support that can be utilized beyond the times of crisis. Based on our findings, we provide recommendations for practice, as well as suggestions for future research.
