Social Activism of Youth Feminist Groups During the #SchoolMeToo Movements in South Korea

Abstract

This article presents an empirical investigation of the mechanisms of sexual harassment and assault in K-12 schools in South Korea and draws national and international attention to safe and just gender politics in education. Applying a critical discourse analysis (CDA) method, this article examines the growth of organically-organized feminist youth groups and supportive networks for socio-cultural and political expression and protest for safety and justice in education for all students, especially sexually oppressed girls in school.
In so doing, it analyzes the nexus between the discourse practice and social activism of one of the most active feminist youth groups during the #SchoolMeToo movements since 2019 to present.
