Thu, April 13, 4:40 to 6:10pm CDT (4:40 to 6:10pm CDT), Chicago Marriott Downtown Magnificent Mile, Floor: 4th Floor, Addison - 1/2 Marriott Ballroom

Abstract

A great deal of research has been dedicated to investigating online interactions. However, identity, which is naturally created and re-created in any social interaction, is less explored within the paradigm of online learning (Ke et al., 2011; Delahunty et al., 2014; Al Siyabi & Al Shekaili, 2021). This study aims to explore what online learning identities emerge from undergraduate students who participate in peer interaction in online courses. Findings identified three overarching themes, which are 1) I am who I am (reifying), 2) I am what I think (endorsable), and 3) I am how I change (significant). Practical implications for online instructional design are made.
