Faculty Experiences Teaching High-Enrollment Online Courses (Poster 13)

Abstract

Everyone seems to be interested in class size. Some want smaller classes (to improve learning) while others want larger classes (to save money). Research, though, on class size is mixed. One thing that is clear is that as demand for online courses increases, so does class size. Each semester faculty find themselves teaching larger online courses. This is likely to only increase due to COVID-19. Given this, we set out to better understand faculty experiences teaching large online courses. We interviewed faculty who have taught online courses with 80+ students to learn more about their experiences teaching these large online courses. In this session, we will present the results of our inquiry and implications for future research and practice.
