Abstract

Adopting the Universal Design for Learning (UDL), we intended to explore technology affordances in enhancing students’ choice and autonomy. We benefited from a self-study methodology to design and implement the research in a course for preservice teachers. We used the UDL engagement principle, recruiting interest guideline, and optimizing individual choice and autonomy checkpoint as the core conceptual framework. The primary data sources were the instructor’s reflections, students’ feedback and an observer’s notes. Findings revealed that the provided choices and autonomy engaged students, and they had the opportunity to focus on the technologies of their choice to meet the course expectations.
