Sun, April 16, 8:00 to 9:30am CDT (8:00 to 9:30am CDT), Sheraton Grand Chicago Riverwalk, Floor: Level 4, Sheraton Ballroom IV and V

Abstract

School districts have made information far more accessible to parents in search of schools for their children in response to federal accountability reform pressures. And yet, while school information has become more abundant and is important for determining desirable educational futures, it remains poorly defined in education literature. Information needs to be characterized more clearly since it takes many forms, derives from myriad sources, and reflects different purposes. To address an expanding and disintegrated set of studies, this analysis synthesizes and frames extant research on school information as it pertains to school choice. In doing so, this systematic review of research makes potential contributions to future studies of school selection, parental preferences, and information interventions.
