Abstract

The powerful influence of Black women who have served as presidents of education organizations is an under-documented facet of research that deserves attention. To bring this issue to light, we interviewed six Black women faculty members who have been presidents of organizations focused on education research, educational leadership, and higher education. Research findings indicate participants’ emphasis on the importance of maintaining and sustaining peer and intergenerational mentoring opportunities (e.g., support groups, (other)sistering), integrating their personal and professional lives to create a healthy balance between the two, and championing the contributions and needs of the communities they serve.
