Using the Early Language and Literacy Classroom Observation Pre-K Tool (ELLCO) to Support Preservice Teachers' Early Literacy Knowledge

Abstract

Learning how to structure and facilitate early learning literacy experiences and environments is an important skill for early childhood preservice teachers. Empower PST to be reflective thinkers about early literacy environments. This exploratory qualitative study examines PSTs experiences using the Early Language and Literacy Classroom Observation Pre-K Tool (ELLCO) as a reflective tool for considering preschool learning environments. Analysis suggests this may be a viable practice for encouraging PSTs to visualize effective early literacy practices.
