A Reflection on a Paid Virtual Undergraduate Research Experience to Bolster Transfer Processes and Pathways

Sun, April 16, 9:50 to 11:20am CDT (9:50 to 11:20am CDT), Sheraton Grand Chicago Riverwalk, Floor: Level 2, Arkansas

Abstract

We propose undergraduate research (Chamely-Wiik et al., 2021) as an avenue that can engage undergraduate students (prospective or current transfer students) and bolster their success toward completing a baccalaureate degree. Prospective transfer students’ responses post-participation in a paid virtual summer research experience included reflections on how the undergraduate research experience allowed them to take charge of their own research projects, find support through their instructor and peers that became instrumental to their success, and expanded their horizons on what they can do with research.
