The literature has provided varying factors that contribute to the underrepresentation of Black women in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM). Retention, persistence, recruitment, and achievement of Black women educators in STEAM are often the focus of discussions relating to underrepresentation. However, as the literature often focuses on a deficit-oriented framework that is devoid of the voices of this dynamic population of STEAM professionals, the question as to who constitutes what is “truth” must be critically examined. Therefore, utilizing narrative inquiry design and collaborative autoethnographic (CAE) methods, this presentation explores the ways in which a group of Black women educators construct counter-stories that reflect on their positionalities and identities in the shaping of their transdisciplinary practices within this space.
