Abstract

Using publicly available data from National Education Policy Center 15th Edition of the EMO Profiles and the U.S. Department of Education's Civil Rights Data Collection (CRDC), this study examines differences in reports of school safety and discipline between for-profit and nonprofit EMO schools in the 2017–18 school year. To our knowledge, this is the first multistate study that attempts to capture for the first time the EMO sector as a vivid site for the study of school safety and discipline that cuts across for-profit and nonprofit sectors. The overall trajectory of our descriptive findings suggests the possibility of selection processes affecting safety and discipline in EMO schools.
