This project centers the voices, visions, and dreams of Black queer youth from Chicago thinking about what school safety should look like in the future. Combating epistemic injustice and centering the concept of freedom dreaming, this project utilizes focus groups with youth to identify 1) what they think ideal, safe schooling should look like in the future, and 2) understand the actions and resources are needed for those visions to come true. This work will help expand current understandings of Black queer students’ perspectives and hopes regarding safety.
