Investigating Factors That Influence Fourth Graders' Science Achievement (Poster 49)

Abstract

Research has shown that students' engagement facilitates desired academic learning outcomes in science and mathematics education (STEM). Factors responsible for motivating students' interest in learning science remain the subject of continuous educational research. Hence, this study examines whether enjoyment of science and teacher support mediate the relationship between science efficacy and science achievement. Regression Analysis was conducted using PISA 2015 data to examine factors that predict science achievements. Results show that enjoyment of science was a stronger predictor of science achievement scores. Further, results showed that enjoyment of science mediates the relationships between science efficacy and science achievement scores. These results were further discussed in the US educational context.
