This case study research (Merriam & Tisdell, 2015) used Young Adult Literature as a transformative tool to provide Education students the space to develop, acknowledge, and challenge their values, attitudes, and beliefs of racially, linguistically, and culturally diverse students. Concomitantly, it encouraged discussions of race, racism, equity, and social issues that pervade society historically, in addition to the current climate of our country. In this qualitative case study, the researcher explores how White undergraduate students majoring in education made sense of their lived experiences and their lives as future educators and what meaning they attributed to discussing race, language and identity, and an Antiracist Pedagogy while they are engaged in a critical reading of an African American Young Adult novel.
