Abstract

The construct receptivity to instructional feedback (RIF) originates from personality psychology and describes a student’s tendency to accept feedback. The current study validated a German version of the Receptivity to Instructional Feedback scale. As expected, we replicated the four separate dimensions of receptivity. Moreover, we found a similar relational pattern of receptivity dimensions and personality dimensions as in the English version of the scale, thereby adding to the construct and discriminant validity of the scale. Further, we demonstrated the superiority of exploratory structural equitation modeling over traditional confirmatory factor analysis in assessing the construct. Contrary to expectations, we did not find a global factor to receptivity nor predictive value of receptivity for achievement in school outcomes. Implications are discussed.
