Entrada de Colegio: A Pre-Collegiate Program Charting Consequential Testimonio Truths

Sat, April 15, 9:50 to 11:20am CDT (9:50 to 11:20am CDT), Fairmont Chicago Millennium Park, Floor: B2 Level, Imperial Ballroom

Abstract

Our testimonio explorations build truth and healing, while interrogating dominant hegemonic educational systems. Working with Latinx students in the Entrada de Colegio Program, we are committed to transformative educational pathways to higher education while building solidarity with our students. The connections we make come from mentorship and commonalities found in our cultural wealth testimonio narratives. Using Community Cultural Wealth, and CRT, the authors examine educational inequities, their institutional aspirations and struggles and vulnerabilities in dialogic and written testimonios. Learning to resist inequitable education, we stand on our consequential ways of knowing. Generating authentic spaces, through experiential knowledge and truth-telling, we unearth our insights and grow, learn, and define our cultural wealth and comunidad (community).
