Abstract

Damaris C. Dunn (she/her/hers) is a PhD candidate in the Department of Educational Theory and Practice at the Mary Frances Early College of Education where she attends the University of Georgia. She is also a Graduate Research Assistant and AERA Graduate Student Representative for Division K. Her current research focuses on Black women teachers labor in and out of K-12 schools. Her previous work marshals the politics of Black joy and its role in the lives of Black girls and Black students generally. Her love of learning and commitment to creating spaces where her pre-service students can grow and in turn create spaces for Black children’s wellbeing is one of the many dreams she has for K12 education. We will win!

Damaris will share insights from her experience as a graduate student pursuing scholarship on Black women abolitionist teachers.
