Developing an Instrument to Map a Statewide Network of School and District Leaders Working Toward Equitable Education (Poster 16)

Thu, April 13, 2:50 to 4:20pm CDT (2:50 to 4:20pm CDT), Hyatt Regency Chicago, Floor: East Tower - Exhibit Level, Riverside West Exhibition Hall

Abstract

School- and district-level leaders are critical to school-wide student success and change. Yet, 21% of principals in high-poverty schools left their positions following the 2016-17 school year. In Massachusetts, Boston schools saw leader turnover at a rate greater than 20% during the 2018-19 school year. While there is an opportunity to hire leaders of color to complement the increasing population of students of color, most school leaders identify as White. This project proposes to develop, and pilot test an instrument to map and analyze the characteristics of a principal professional development alumni network in Massachusetts, leveraging an existing multi-year evaluation of a principal leadership program, with the goal of implementing this instrument with additional networks of leaders.
