Abstract

A Qualitative Investigation of Black Emerging Adults’ Participation in Activism (Under the direction of Dr. Elan C. Hope). Black emerging adults have been integral participants in activism. However, historical disenfranchisement, dominant conceptualizations of activism, and technological advancements over time do not highlight the varied ways in which Black emerging adults participate. This qualitative study uses thematic analysis of semi-structured interviews to examine how Black emerging adults are thinking about and participating in activism, as well as motivations and barriers related to their participation. This study will highlight how Black emerging adults’ think about and participate in activism and may have implications for sustaining their involvement
