Abstract

"Belonging" is closely related to students' academic adaptation, emotional needs, psychological health and social identity in the community. Aiming at solving the problems existing in study and mental health of students in Sino-foreign cooperative programs, this case study observes a Sino-foreign cooperative program in a large research institution between one university in Shanghai (S University) and a state university (M University) in the US, focusing on the "sense of belonging" experienced by students in Sino-foreign cooperative programs through interviews and fieldwork. This study aims to answer how these students feel about their sense of belonging to two different universities, what influences their sense of belonging, and put forward suggestions to enhance their sense of belonging.
