Abstract

In 2012 the Washington State Supreme Court decided McCleary v. State, 173 Wn. 2d 477, 269 P.3d 227 (2012), and found that the State Legislature violated its duty under the state constitution to make "ample provision for the education of all children" because it failed to adequately fund basic expenditures for K-12 schools. The legislative response to the McCleary decision is similar to other states. Extent research on court-mandated school finance reforms focus primarily on the impacts of court decisions on funding levels and student outcomes, without closely examining the specific legislative reforms that drive more resources to schools. This study aims to address this gap in the literature.
