Sat, April 15, 2:50 to 4:20pm CDT (2:50 to 4:20pm CDT), Hyatt Regency Chicago, Floor: East Tower- Ballroom Level, Grand Ballroom A

Abstract

This research explores the critical role of parental involvement in schools. Researchers have highlighted the benefits of school, family, and community partnerships; however, barriers remain to implementing these connections, particularly during change. The pandemic has highlighted an increase in separation and isolation. Through implementing a Mindfulness-Based Intervention, the study will explore the supports and challenges involved in authentically engaging communities and families to establish a successful implementation process and will be informed by Epstein's model of six types of parental involvement. Using a mixed-method design, we will collect quantitative and qualitative data from a large school district in the western United States. Data will be collected for detailed analysis. This research seeks to add to the field of school, family, and community engagement with the unique perspective of building partnerships with families that support school effectiveness during times of change, specifically during the introduction of new initiatives.
