Abstract

"This qualitative narrative study seeks to capture the stories of the schooling experiences of Black American diplomat families who attend sponsored American international schools overseas compared to the schooling experiences of Black middle-class schooling experiences in the United States. Using narrative as inquiry and phenomenon, the study hopes to explore concepts of intersectionality theory and critical race. The research will focus on a niche group of Black middle-class Americans, Foreign Service Officers, whose children attend schools overseas. Sponsored American international schools are a site for educational study because their aims are to replicate American schooling domestically, abroad. This feature of American international schools will be examined through the stories of Black students who attend school in these spaces.
Keywords: American international schools, Black middle-class, racism"
