Abstract

Research teams outpace solo authors in the production of knowledge; however, researchers receive little training on how to successfully work as a team. Transdisciplinary research (TR) requires researchers from different disciplines to work jointly, using shared frameworks to identify and explore a problem (Rosenfield, 1992). This collaboration requires the perspectives and skills of researchers from multiple disciplines who can synthesize methods and develop language that can be used across disciplines. In professions education research, TR can provide empirical evidence to improve teaching and learning. This session will provide emerging and experienced scholars with a roadmap for designing and implementing TR projects that expand education knowledge beyond one discipline, impact policy and practices, and interrogate education as an equity driver.
