How Do Marginalized and Minoritized Students Navigate the Writingworld's Doxa?

Abstract

This symposium draws on principles derived from Bourdieu’s conceptualization of fields to examine the dynamics of the Writingworld, a concept which explains how literacy practices are governed and controlled by certain groups of people, institutions, and regulations. With an explanation of the Writingworld theoretical framework as its starting point, the symposium later showcases empirical studies which serve to illustrate the challenges that marginalized and minoritized student writers encounter while they try to navigate the doxa of the Writingworld in a variety of contexts.
