Meeting the UNESCO Sustainable Development Goal 4 of Inclusive and Equitable Quality Education: What Does Research Say?

Abstract

In 2015, in Korea, over 1600 participants from 160 countries adopted a new vision for education grounded in the 4th UNESCO Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) “to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all” (Incheon, 2015).
This framework focuses explicitly on access, inclusion, equity (specifically gender equity), quality, and lifelong learning, and is grounded in the values of human rights, public good, and equity. Five researchers from three countries and different genders and ethnicities, take this as a starting point to explore how their own research and development programs have advanced this notion of preparing school leaders to foreground inclusion and relationships, equity and excellence for the good of all students.
